Why the most successful parties are furthest from their voters

Where do Flemish parties sit on the ideological map, and where are their voters? We answered that question with interactive scatter plots in a scrollytelling format. Based on university research data, we placed parties and 1,908 voters in a two-dimensional quadrant: socio-economic left/right and socio-cultural left/right. The scrollytelling reveals step by step how far parties sometimes stand from their voters: 73% of voters are closer to a different party than the one they vote for.
