The race to save the planet

On the eve of the COP28 UN climate summit in Dubai, De Standaard published a comprehensive data overview of the double race humanity is caught in: the rapid rollout of renewable energy versus escalating climate disruption. The piece combines more than ten Flourish infographics (from the take-off of solar and wind to CO₂ concentration over 400,000 years) with two interactive 3D globes showing where heat days and droughts will increase per climate scenario. A scrollytelling chart reveals step by step how fast the carbon budget is shrinking and how deeply emissions must fall. In between, video sections and full-bleed photography break up the rhythm. We put the production together quickly as a collaboration between text, infographics, development and art direction.
