Interactive tool allowing readers to look up the diversity of any Flemish primary or secondary school, with evolution charts since 2010 and a comparison with the 25 nearest schools.
How diverse is your child's school? This interactive tool lets readers look up the diversity of more than 3,400 Flemish schools, both primary and secondary education. The user searches a school by name or municipality and receives a detailed profile: the percentage of pupils who don't speak Dutch at home and the share of children with low-educated parents.
The tool contains two D3 visualizations. An evolution chart shows how the school developed since 2010, compared against the average of the 25 nearest schools and the Flemish average. A horizontal bar chart ranks the school among its neighboring schools (using Python and the Haversine formula we calculated the 25 nearest schools for each school) so readers can see at a glance where their school stands. The data comes from the Flemish Ministry of Education.
