On March 22, 2016, 32 people were killed and 340 injured in the attacks on Brussels Airport and Maalbeek metro station, the deadliest attacks in Belgian history. On the eve of the trial, De Standaard reconstructed the attacks minute by minute, based on documents, photographs and audio fragments from the criminal investigation.

The story combines three layers: the statements of surviving terrorists Mohamed Abrini and Osama Krayem, the CCTV footage from airport and metro revealed scroll-step by scroll-step, and the audio fragments from bomb maker Najim Laachraoui and suicide bomber Ibrahim El Bakraoui among others. Readers literally hear the terrorists' voices as they scroll through the chronology, from the safehouse on Max Roos Street at 6:45 AM to the explosion in Maalbeek at 9:10 AM.

The piece was nominated for the Belfius Press Award.
